How to Prepare for a Brand Photoshoot: A Cebu Guide

September 8, 2026 · 6 min read

A great brand photoshoot isn’t really about the camera on the day — it’s about everything you sort out before it. The brands that walk away with images they actually use (on the website, the socials, the catalogue) are almost always the ones that came prepared.

So whether you’re booking a product shoot, a brand shoot, or both, here’s a practical, no-stress guide to preparing — so your session runs smoothly and delivers photos that earn their keep.

1. Start with the “why” — where will these photos live?

Before anything else, get clear on how you’ll actually use the images. This one decision shapes the whole shoot:

  • Website — you’ll want a mix of wide “hero” shots and clean, consistent product images.
  • Instagram / Facebook — square and vertical crops, room for text, a bit more lifestyle and personality.
  • Catalogue or menu — uniform framing and backgrounds so everything sits together neatly.

Tell your photographer this up front — it changes the framing, the orientation, and how much space we leave around each shot.

2. Gather inspiration (a simple moodboard)

You don’t need to be a designer — just collect 8–12 images you love. Screenshots from Instagram or Pinterest, competitor shots, a colour or mood you’re drawn to. This “moodboard” gives everyone the same visual language and saves hours of back-and-forth. A quick note on what you don’t like is just as helpful.

3. Make a shot list

List the specific shots you need — it’s the single best way to make sure nothing is missed while everything’s set up. For a product brand, that might be:

  • A clean, front-on image of every product (your “hero” catalogue shots)
  • A few detail / close-up shots showing texture and quality
  • Lifestyle shots — the product in use, or beautifully styled
  • A group shot of your range together
  • Any specific banner or hero image your website needs

Prioritise it, too — if time runs short, you’ll get the must-haves first.

4. Prep your products, props and styling

  • Clean everything. Fingerprints, dust and lint show up mercilessly on camera — a quick wipe-down saves a lot of retouching.
  • Bring backups. Two or three of each product where you can, in case one has a flaw the lens catches.
  • Gather props. The little extras that tell your story — fabrics, flowers, ingredients, packaging, tools of your trade.
  • Iron and steam anything with fabric. Creases are the number-one photo killer.

5. If people are in the shots

Brand shoots often include you or your team. If so: decide who’s in frame, plan wardrobe that fits your brand colours (avoid busy patterns and logos), keep grooming simple and natural, and — most importantly — relax. The best shots come when people aren’t stiff, so we’ll guide you through it.

6. Location, timing and light

Decide whether you’re shooting in a studio (controlled, consistent — ideal for product work) or on location (great for atmosphere and lifestyle). If it’s on location and relies on natural light, timing matters — soft morning or late-afternoon light is far kinder than harsh midday sun. In Cebu, planning around the weather and the light is part of the job, so talk it through with your photographer early.

7. On the day

Arrive a little early, bring everything on your list (plus those backups), and don’t over-schedule — good shots take time, and rushing shows. Trust the process, ask questions, and stay open to ideas that come up once things are set up. Some of the best frames are happy accidents.

How we run a shoot at KenSuarez Studio

We’re a Cebu studio that shoots brand and product photography in-house — and builds the websites those images live on. That means we plan every shoot around where the photos will actually be used, so they drop straight into your site and socials looking cohesive and unmistakably yours. We’ll help with the shot list, styling and the rest, so preparing never feels overwhelming. Take a look at our photography service, and if you’re weighing it up, our guide on whether you need professional product photos is a good read.

The bottom line

A little preparation is the difference between a shoot that’s stressful and one that’s fun — and between photos that sit unused and photos that sell for you every day. Know how you’ll use them, gather inspiration, make a shot list, and prep your products. Do that, and you’re already most of the way to a shoot worth every peso.

Frequently asked questions

How do I prepare for a brand photoshoot?

Start by deciding where the photos will be used (website, socials, catalogue), gather 8–12 inspiration images, write a prioritised shot list, and prep your products — clean them, bring backups, and gather props. If people are in frame, plan simple, on-brand wardrobe.

What should I bring to a product or brand shoot?

Bring every product you want shot (plus a backup or two of each), any props that tell your story, your shot list and moodboard, and — if you’re on camera — a couple of wardrobe options in your brand colours. Make sure everything is clean and, for fabrics, steamed.

How long does a brand photoshoot take?

It depends on how many products and setups you need. A focused product session can be a few hours; a fuller brand shoot with lifestyle and team shots may take most of a day. A good shot list helps you use the time well — share how many images you need and your photographer can give you a realistic estimate.

Do I need to make a moodboard?

It’s not compulsory, but it helps enormously. Even a simple collection of 8–12 images you love (and a note on what you don’t) gives everyone the same visual direction and makes the shoot faster and more on-brand.

Do I really need professional photos?

For the products and brand images you’re serious about, yes — professional photography lifts trust and sales, especially online where the photo does the selling. We cover this in detail in our guide on whether you need professional product photos.
